Descrierea proiectului:

ENGLISH VERSION

Title: Roma people visiting the European Parliament in Brussels

Project type: Application for financial support to EP

Group of beneficiaries: 30 Roma ethnics + 2 companions/organizers

Promoter /Organizer: Group for European Integration, Romania

Period: 16-20 September 2012
Financial support granted by EP: 9120 Euro (285 Euro per person)

Description of the project:

Group members have general (basic) knowledge on the EU and the European institutions, achieved through participation in a course they attended, with the title "Management of the European Projects" (which included the EU's fundamental aspects of its operation and of the European institutions). The course was addressed to both students and members of the Roma ethnic belonging to the Roma Party – the Arges branch.

We believe that the group is a group of opinion multipliers on the one hand by the fact that some group members are students and thus they will act as vectors for dissemination of information on EU and its institutional relations at the level of their peers and teachers within the university to which they are enrolled, but also at the level of their family and the local Roma community they belong to. On the other hand, other group members, who are not students, are leaders, representatives or active members of local Roma communities. They are people engaged in solving the problems of Roma: most of them are connected with large Roma communities in the county of Arges - for example, with the Roma people in the village of Râncăciov, located at 20 km from Pitesti, where 3,000 of Roma are living - issues to which they pay their highest interest and attention, engaging in a real way, seeking solutions to their problems, offering advice, mediating their relations with authorities, initiating European projects for education, professional training and development. Group members will act as multipliers of opinion also because they are known and accepted among the Roma, being themselves Roma people, having a good visibility and widespread recognition in their community, enjoying confidence of Roma and having the capacity to form in Roma people correct and valid opinions about the EU and its institutions. Thus, the group members will bring to the local Roma community in Argeş county the necessary information about European construction, about its functioning and  organization through the European institutions, about European policies and strategies of interest for Roma people, making clear that the EU provides equal chances and opportunities for Roma ethnic, opening the access of Roma to knowledge upon the European realities, upon legislation, rights and duties that Roma have as citizens of the union, motivating them to better inform themselves on EU and to take action and steps to increase their level of education, professional training and living standards. The group members will have contact for dissemination purposes with members of the local Roma community, with schools where Roma children learn, with companies and institutions from the public and private economic environment, with civil society.
